Why nams as "Nandigram"?
Nanded city was formerly known as Nandigram (or Nanditaṭa) due to the presence of the “Nandi-taṭa” (banks of Nandi), where the vahan of Lord Shiva is said to have performed penance. The name “Nandigram” refers to this holy site by the Godavari river and is the ancient name that was later changed to “Nanded”.
